Benidorm breaks its own record for overnight hotel stays in 2015, according to figures from the National Statistics Institute (INE). The popular Costa Blanca resort tripled the number of overnight stays in the city of Valencia, and came fourth in the overall ranking.

The Costa Blanca represents 61% of all hotel operations of Valencia and Benidorm is the main point of activity with 42% of all overnight stays. Valencia represents 25%, with a significant weight in the city of Valencia, while the province of Castellón accounts for 14% of the total.

The numbers, which were compiled and supplied to the INE by the HOSBEC hotel association, rank Barcelona (18.4 million) at the top of the list, followed by Madrid (17.8 million) and San Bartolomé de Tirajana in Gran Canaria.

Benidorm is the primary vacation choice on the Iberian peninsula, followed by island destinations. Elsewhere on the list, Lloret de Mar in Catalonia ranked 10th while Valencia placed 17th on the list.

58% of the jobs directly linked to the hotel sector occurs in the province of Alicante, which employs 8,346 direct employees of the more than 14,000 that half were employed in the sector in Valencia.

One of the most significant reasons is the good weather and the excellent choice of hotels it offers, but note that they are becoming more foreigners are nationalized, and a house in one of the areas most claimed the real estate world are bought.
